Gospel Lyrics >> Song Title :: Who You Are
Gospel Lyrics >> Song Artist :: Arends, Carolyn

Carolyn Arends

Built from clay and breath of God
This is who you are
Made to house eternal love
This is who you are
Matter and spirit combined
This is who you are
Temple for the Lord Most High
This is who you are

Echo of creation's song
This is who you are
Remnant of the Chosen Ones
This is who you are
Ember of a holy fire
This is who you are
Object of the King's desire
This is who you are

Who you are, who you are
Who you are, who you are
Heaven sings this song to you...
This is who you are

Little lamb who wanders off
This is who you are
One the Shepherd won't leave lost
This is who you are
Rescued by His sacrifice
This is who you are
Now the hands and feet of Christ
This is who you are

Who you are, who you are...

Hear the Father call your name
Shine with His eternal flame
Bear His image in your soul
This is who you are
Listen 'til you finally know
This is who you are

About the Song

My friend Vicki likes to sojourn to the Abbey of Gethsemeni in Kentucky (which was home for 27 years to the great monastic writer Thomas Merton). She sent me a little card from the Abbey - sort of a bookmark - containing Merton's Litany of the Person, which affirms all that we are, both to God and because of Him.

Steve Bell is fond of talking about St. John of Kronstadt - a parish priest in 19th Century Russia who was known to cup the chins of the most debauched vagrants so he could look into their eyes and tell them that what they were doing was beneath their dignity, and that in reality they had been created to house the fullness of God.

We have been created to house the fullness of God. If we could really understand - at our core - who God is and therefore who we are, nothing would be the same.

Steve Bell, fittingly, sings on this track, which makes me very happy. Thomas Merton (1915-1968) was unfortunately not available.
